What is Innovation and social entrepreneurship?
Innovation can simply be described as a new idea, device or method which is useful and scalable to appropriate levels.
It should have certain distinctiveness over existing similar products/ devices/ methods and which helps to improve output or efficiency, enables multi-functionality and reduces drudgery etc.
Social entrepreneurship is an approach by start-up companies and entrepreneurs, in which they develop, fund and implement solutions to social, cultural and environmental issues.
Why is Innovation and social entrepreneurship necessary?
Innovation and social entrepreneurship are necessary not only to maintain competitive advantage but growth and development of institutions, industries and countries in a global world. It improves products, processes and services and thereby, the quality of life of people.
Why should we promote creative Innovation and Start-ups in youngsters?
Creativity among young people is almost in-born. The spirit of originality, creativity and innovation among our young people has to be promoted. This will be helpful when they become leaders of our society in future, ensuring and imaginative, inclusive future for the country fuelled by innovation. Inclusive development of our society needs opportunities for youngsters so as to ensure an aversion to inertia and a reverence for innovative ways of solving problems.
It is believed that it will provide required impetus for young people to harness their talent and capabilities to create new opportunities for themselves and for the people of India.
Who can participate?
The competition will be held common for UG & PG students of Arts & Science Colleges. Nomination and presentation can be done by either by one person or by a team (comprising a maximum of five students) and the award goes to that person or the team.
Is there any limit to the number of projects submitted by a College?
No, the colleges are encouraged to submit as many projects as they wish.
What kinds of submissions are encouraged?
Young people should be encouraged to come up with creative ideas on their own. Teachers/Mentors may propose a problem to identify a possible solution and then help converting the idea into a prototype/model. Teachers/Mentors are to ensure that projects submitted to the competition are in original idea so that the competition maintains a high standard.
The Intellectual Property Right (IPR) Nodal Centre, at Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, will assist with experts who will provide the support for patentable ideas. Our team will also assist in guiding to procure necessary funding from agencies/industries to scale it to appropriate level of application.
